Brian Utesch is a Senior Technical Staff Member and Design Research Practice Lead in IBM Marketing and Sales Intelligence. He has 20+ years of industry experience working as both a subject matter expert and user experience manager for a variety of corporations including NCR, Bell Northern Research, Nortel Networks, Sprint, and IBM.

Brian is a recognized expert in human-computer interaction and design research methodologies and has significant worldwide client interaction. He received his Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology from Wichita State University and his B.A. in Psychology from Baylor University and is a Certified User Experience Professional (CUXP).

UX Researcher Checklist: An Analysis of 100 UX Researcher Open Job Postings

UX Researchers, regardless of years of experience or job status, should be evaluating themselves against an objective benchmark of capability. One source of data for such a comparison is open job postings where the requirements of the position, across multiple domains and industries, offers insights into themes. An analysis of 100 open UX Researcher job postings on LinkedIn were used to develop themes around categories such as education level, educational discipline, collaborators, responsibilities, methods, and skills. Our talk will present a qualitative and quantitative understanding of which UX research skills are in-demand by employers, and what is expected out of a UX Researcher today.
