Function Mapping: Preserving User Experience Across Platforms

This presentation will introduce function mapping, a method for collaborative design and development in teams with disparate expertise. The presenters will discuss the utility of function mapping in negotiating design decisions to honor deep theoretical justifications while managing system usability and preserving functionality across media platforms with distinct affordances and limitations. Participants will gain insights into the application of function mapping through a discussion of the research and development of a virtual reality learning environment designed to improve comprehension of scientific size and scale, which has been subsequently translated for AR and screen-based interfaces.
