Preparing for the future means preparing for emerging tech, and our methods of measurement are not keeping up. Most existing usability scales were created for visual interfaces, but emerging mediums such as voice UIs and AR/VR interfaces provide a very different experience. These new technologies require activation of different cognitive strategies, evoke different affective responses, and are affected by individual differences in ways we don't yet understand. We cannot interchange the word "website" with "voice UI" and expect scales to still be valid.
Attendees will take away an introduction to scale development from the field of psychometrics. As part of the talk, you'll participate in an interactive activity to crowdsource items (i.e., questions) for a new voice usability scale.
